Club Humidor is one of the leading brick and mortar cigar retailers in San Antonio, TX and they have FIVE shops in town. The number one thing I like best about these shops is the staff. Finck’s is a cool cigar shop with a large variety of different cigars. They are a family owned operation and you can tell that the Finck family takes their business to heart. They have three shops in San Antonio, TX. The two shops that I have visited is the one on Bandera (in Helotes) and the shop on West Ave. Finck Cigars holds awesome events like the Lone Star Cigar Bash as well as different events with other cool cigar makers. The smoke lounges at their shops are a little smaller than some other places around town, but the regular group of guys that hang out there keep it very interesting. In this video review I wanted to share a little tip with you about how to keep your wooden humidor at the house humidified a little better. I’m a big fan of the Boveda humidity packs for my tupperdores, but they don’t work as well inside wooden humidors. Hence the Xikar Humidity Crystals! They work awesome! I bought a big 4oz jar and the little 2oz and I put both of them in my humidor (as you can see in the video). I try to keep my cigars around 70% humidity, which can be a little difficult with wooden humidors. So far I’m very happy I decided to try out Xikar’s product. I’m not surprised though, Xikar is known for making great things. I should have tried it out sooner. So far I’ve been able to get my wood humidor to stabilize at 66% humidity, but we’ll see what happens after I rearrange some of my cigars around. Overall, this is a great tool to keep your cigars nice and fresh. Some of the cigars in this humidor include several El Primer Mundo cigars made by Sean Williams like the Epifania, Hermandad and Costa Fuerta, as well as One 13 Chronicles, Black Label Trading Company and The Eastern Standard from Robert Caldwell. Another tip for these crystals is to remove the little black grate on the jar also if you’re not getting the humidity level you are looking for. By removing the grate cover you give more air space for the gel crystals to work their magic.
I had the chance to play at Willow Springs yesterday, June 9th with my buddy Coy. Although it’s starting to get hot outside we still had a blast like always. Any day you can hit the golf course and enjoy a good cigar is a great day! As far as the course is concerned, it was in pretty good shape, but it wasn’t as green as Olmos Basin was the last time I played there. I thought Willow Springs would have been a little more plush, but they must have a good drainage system or something because it didn’t look like the course soaked up all that rain we’ve been having. Speaking of rain, it’s supposed to rain later on this week, so maybe the course will look better next week. The greens played nice, and I didn’t really have any complaints. In this video review I will show you how to properly season your humidor at home. Seasoning your humidor simply means wetting the inside of the natural wood humidor so that it won’t suck all of the moisture out of your cigars when you put them inside. Be patient because it takes about a day or so to do it right because you have to give the humidor some time to soak in all the moisture. After you wipe down the inside of the humidor with distilled water, you will also want to get a shot glass and fill it up with distilled water or propylene glycol solution and leave it inside the humidor overnight. I also like to put my Xikar wireless digital hygrometer inside the humidor as well so I can keep an eye on the humidity levels. Don’t be alarmed if the humidity level inside the humidor is high at first (75% – 80%) because keep in mind you did just wipe down the whole inside with distilled water. One of the nice things you will also notice after you properly season your humidor is that it will have a better seal when you close the lid. The wood expands a little bit when it is moist, and the result is a nice, tight seal. Good luck!
How to Season Your Humidor
I got to play at Olmos Basin on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2015 and boy was it in great shape. Olmos Basin is one of the golf courses on the Alamo City Golf Trail here in San Antonio, TX. With my Level 2 membership I was able to play for around $25! Olmos Basin golf course usually isn’t this green year-round, but due to all of the rain we’ve been having here in Texas recently, now is the time to get out and play. The greens were in great shape, and they looked beautiful. Unfortunately, I don’t always hit the fairway on my drives and there were times where it was a little difficult to find my ball (even if it was just a couple feet in the rough). If you can get a chance to make it out there pretty soon while it’s all green I would recommend you do. A lot of people asked me if the course was flooded when I played, and luckily for me it wasn’t. I played Canyon Springs golf course a few days before and it ate my lunch, so it was nice to play a wide open course like Olmos. Check out this tee shot on hole 6, where I landed on the green!
I got a chance to play at Canyon Springs Golf Course on Sunday with some of my good golf buddies. Although we’ve been having some crazy, rainy, stormy weather in San Antonio recently, the golf course was in great shape. This is one of the few courses that I know of that has a beautiful waterfall and real LONGHORNS on the course. Canyon Springs is one of the more expensive courses in San Antonio, but I like to use a little app called GolfNow to find some good deals.
Cigar Reserve Cedar Spills
These are the cedar spills that I like to use in my tupperdores at the house. They come in packs of 25 or 50 and I usually snap them in half before I lay them in with my cigars. The cedar spills will give you the aroma that your typical wood humidor that is lined with cedar has. I’ve bought boxes of these cedar spills in San Antonio from the Humidors on San Pedro, Thousand Oaks and Huebner. You’ll love the way your cigars smell after adding a few of these to your box.
Just wanted to show you a few picks of the stash that I keep at home. The hardest part is going to be not touching these cigars for a while. One of the well known tricks to turning a good cigar into a GREAT cigar is to let them age for a while at the perfect temperature and humidity.
